Cleopatra, driven out of Alexandria, was in the Luxor area where she had a personal army and minted coins bearing her image as the legitimate queen. According to Plutarch's account, Cleopatra, by bribing her brother's guards, managed to enter the port of Alexandria at night and reach the royal palace where Julius Caesar was staying. A friend of hers, Apollodorus the Sicilian, had introduced her wrapped in a sack for blankets (or a carpet). Caesar was struck by the woman's cunning.
When Cleopatra gave birth to a child called Caesarion - little Caesar - Caesar proudly returned to Rome and immediately introduced a new model of toga, which only he had the right to wear. The toga was the favorite color of his lover: Tyrian purple
