Near the window there is another source of warmth. On the table beside the window there are food scraps and a cup of sweetened coffee. The fly approaches the table, attracted by the sugar. But that heat-emitting shadow begins to move. A hand rises, ready to strike, yet the fly escapes it, as fast as lightning. A human processes about twenty frames per second, whereas the fly perceives roughly two hundred. As a result, the movement of the human hand appears incredibly slow to it, and while this scene unfolds in slow motion, the annoying insect has already flown away toward the stove. From there it watches that large warm shadow, which seems frozen in the chair for an eternity, and from time to time it flies back toward the longed-for sugar.
